Patton - Edna Spencer

Edna E. Spencer was b. in Fleming Co Ky Aug 23, 1830, died at the home of her nieces, Misses Nannie and Mollie Bloomfield, July 17, 1919. She had reached the age of 88Years, 10 months and 24 days. Edna was the youngest dau. in a family of 6 sons and 4 daughters. Of this large family one survives, the youngest brother, George W. Spencer. When she was 4 years of age, she, with her parents, emigrated to Indiana and settled on the farm now owned by Jesse C. Spencer, three Mi. SW of Waveland. Here she grew to womanhood and here she lived till the death of her father, when she, with her mother, moved to Waveland. There she was married in 1875 to David Patton, whose death occurred six years ago. When about 19, she united with the Bank Springs Christian Church during the ministry of Nathan Wright. Throughout her whole life of almost 4 score years and 10; her faith in her Father's love and care has never wavered. During the last years of her life she has been most tenderly and carefully cared for by the nieces with whom she has made her home. To her friends she often spoke of her appreciation of this care, saying, "No one could have had a better home of been more patiently watched over than she." Aunt Edna is at rest. To those of us who have known her most intimately the memory of her life is a benediction and a blessing. The ripened sheaf has been garnered into the Father's care. Funeral services. were held from the home on Saturday afternoon; conducted by Rev. Kerr of Crawfordsville. The remains were laid to rest in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Mr. & Mrs. George Patton, Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Patton; William Patton and Mr. & Mrs. Bert VanCleave of Crawfordsville and Mr. & Mrs. Tribby of New Richmond were here for the funeral. - transcribed by kbz
